Nagaland Health Protection Society (NHPS)

The Nagaland Health Protection Society (NHPS) was established by the Government of Nagaland in affiliation with the National Health Authority of India to implement various Public Health Insurance Schemes. The society operates under the State government administering Central schemes such as AB PM-JAY, BOCW, PM CARES, CAPF, and ASHA/AWWs/AHWs as well as the state scheme CMHIS (EP) & (GEN), in Nagaland.

NHPS is governed by various key stakeholders of the State. A governing body headed by the Chief Minister of Nagaland; an Executive Committee headed by the Administrative Head of the Department of Health & Family Welfare Department; and a Chief Executive Officer (CEO). NHPS has also established District Implementation Units in every district of Nagaland so that beneficiaries from all districts are ensured coverage under the scheme.

What is the role of NHPS?

NHPS assists eligible beneficiaries of Nagaland in obtaining the respective scheme card, informs beneficiaries about the benefits and services provided by the schemes, and empanels hospitals within and outside the state so that beneficiaries can seek treatment across India.

NHPS addresses the grievances of the beneficiaries for issues such as failure to receive cashless treatment from the empanelled hospitals or any other queries that may cause hindrance for the beneficiary from availing of the benefits of the schemes.

NHPS is authorized to take action against any Empanelled Hospitals under the respective schemes that fail to adhere to the policy and guidelines, which may lead to de-empanelment of the hospital.

Additionally, NHPS is also responsible for initiating any drives, trainings, or programs related to the schemes within the state for awareness and education of the beneficiaries and the respective assigned resources for smooth implementation of the schemes.

NOTE: Eligible beneficiaries are entitled to only one Public Health Insurance Scheme and cannot apply for more.

The Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme (CMHIS) is a public health insurance scheme implemented by the Government of Nagaland to offer cashless treatment to eligible citizens of Nagaland.
